Breathing Easier help to Sleep well, Stop Snoring and Other Symptoms

Bothered by nasal congestion? Here are some tips to help you breathe more easily.

  • Use a humidifier. Moist air lubricates the airways, making it easier to inhale and exhale.
  • No humidifier? Try a hot shower before bed instead!
  • Drink warm liquids. Whether it be tea or plain heated water, warm non-caffeinated liquids will help you breathe and sleep more easily. Warm liquids help clear the airways and bring comforting relief.
  • Chicken soup may do more than this. when researchers at mount Sinai Medical Center gave 15 cold sufferers chicken soup and warm water, they found chicken soup to be more effective in clearing out the sinuses.
  • Use Medical Nasal Devices, opening up nasal passages. This immediately relieves congestion by making it easier for air to pass.

  • Take an Omega-3 supplement. If you have asthma, or an associated breathing condition related to inflammation, fish or flax oil supplements may help suppress the inflammatory response within your airways and lungs. (You may wish to first discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist).
  • Stop smoking (and do not hang out near smokers). Smoking and second-hand smoke are extremely damaging to the lungs. Avoid cigarette smoke.
  • Maintain dental hygiene. Brushing and flossing twice daily appears to affect the health of the lungs. Researchers at the State University of New York in Buffalo found people with gum disease were one-and-a-half times more likely to have COPD (chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease – an umbrella term given to diseases such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema). The worse the gum diseas, the worse their lung function, which suggests a direct correlation between the conditions.
